Over the last few years Haywood has made great strides in improving the literacy of our students and in creating a culture of reading within the school. On World Book Day this year we took this one step further as staff dressed up as a variety of literary characters. We managed to keep this a secret from students until the day itself and it’s safe to say they were certainly surprised to see the staff dressed as anything from Mary Poppins to Peter Pan to Hermione Granger. Mr Ward also entered into the spirit of the day and dressed up as Dumbledore to read to a group of Year 4 students from Mill Hill. Our students were given a quiz to complete based on which member of staff was dressed as which character with prizes being awarded for the most correct answers. It was a lot of fun and a great way for staff to model their enthusiasm for literacy to our students.
