Haywood Academy has been successful in a bid to the Teaching Agency to deliver Teacher Training programmes in a number of subjects. Our School Direct programme is delivered within the Painsley Catholic College School Direct consortium in partnership with Birmingham City University, the University of Derby and the North Staffordshire Primary SCITT.
We aim to provide high quality, school based initial teacher training and believe that our provision ensures trainees feel fully prepared for life in the classroom and a career in education. We work closely with the partner universities and SCITT to ensure that our School Direct colleagues gain their Teaching Qualification giving them qualified teacher status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). If you choose to apply to Haywood Academy and are successful you are guaranteed a placement with us and also with another school in the consortium. There may also be opportunities to visit our partner primary schools for short placements.
Whilst on placement we will support you in offering children a broad and balanced curriculum, one that both engages and excites them. You will be encouraged to advance children’s knowledge, understanding, skills, attributes and aspirations so that they benefit from the quality learning opportunities that you create in partnership with your class-teachers and mentors.
It is a privilege for us to be working in a diverse region with exceptional teachers. We respect the cultures and backgrounds of the young people in our settings and we enable you to take seriously, issues of equity and social justice. In particular we value the transformative role that a high quality secondary educational experience has, in enabling young people to become informed, empowered and engaged.
We are extremely pleased that we are able to offer salaried Secondary School Direct places this year in English (1), Mathematics (1) and Science (Physics) (1) and non-Salaried secondary places in Art (6) and Computing (1) and 6 non-salaried Primary places.
