Get into Teaching – School Direct

The City Learning Trust – a Multi Academy Trust founded in 2014 – has ten academies in membership, covering approximately six thousand students aged three to nineteen. Our academies include Clarice Cliff Primary, Glebe Academy, Haywood Academy, City College, Holden Lane Primary, Mill Hill Primary, Smallthorne Primary, St Peter’s Academy, The Priory Church of England Primary and Trentham Academy.

We offer a variety of secondary school direct subject places with Staffordshire University, Manchester Metropolitan University and the West Midlands Consortium including English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages, Psychology, Religious Studies, Art and Design, Business Studies, Computing, Geography, Physical Education and Dance. We have numerous primary places with North Staffordshire Teacher Education.

We provide high quality training that ensures trainees feel fully prepared for life in the classroom and a career in education. We work closely with the partner universities to ensure that our school direct colleagues gain their teaching qualification (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). If you choose to apply to the City Learning Trust and are successful, you are guaranteed placements at academies within our Multi Academy Trust.

Whilst on placement we will support you in offering children a broad and balanced curriculum, one that both engages and excites them.  You will be encouraged to advance children’s knowledge, understanding, skills, attributes and aspirations so that they benefit from the quality learning opportunities that you create in partnership with your class-teachers and mentors.

It is a privilege for us to be working in a diverse region with exceptional teachers.  We respect the cultures and backgrounds of the young people in our settings, and we enable you to take seriously issues of equity and social justice.  In particular, we value the transformative role that a high quality secondary educational experience has in enabling young people to become informed, empowered and engaged.

Applications should be made through the UCAS Teacher Training website, but please do not hesitate to contact The City Learning Trust if you wish to enquire about any of the training courses. Please contact Adele Mills (Senior Executive Leader) at for further information.
