Literacy

Possessing good literacy skills is the key to unlocking potential and opening the doors to a successful future. At Haywood, we want all of our students to leave their schooling here armed with an array of literacy skills that will prepare them for life in the wider world, as well as having an appreciation for the literature that enriches lives day in, day out.

Students will have the opportunity to celebrate a variety of literature events and acclaimed writers, and will also gain awareness of literacy issues that affect people internationally.

In addition, cross-curricular staff-collaboration will allow students to develop their literacy skills in a plethora of ways- focusing on vocabulary, reading comprehension, careers, verbal and written sophistication, and finally, creativity in writing- to name but a few.

In short, we will ensure that your child will have many opportunities to strengthen and solidify their literacy skills, both through specific, academic intervention and focus, and also through the exploration and enjoyment of the literature that surrounds them.
