Mel Roberts

Assistant Principal

I believe that education is a personal experience for every student that enters my classroom and that it is my responsibility to ensure that every student leaves that classroom feeling that they have learned something new and enjoyed the experience. By providing a quality education I aim to equip the students with the tools necessary for success in life.

In order to achieve this goal, I think it is important first to establish a mutually respectful, honest rapport with the students – a relationship in which communication is of the highest priority. Higher order learning will take place when students are motivated and inspired by my passion for the subject and teaching. Learning will be most productive when everyone is willing to actively participate in their own learning. In order to achieve this I demonstrate enthusiasm and confidence in the students that I teach.

I enjoy teaching at Haywood Academy because the students work well together in the classroom and show resilience to the difficulties they encounter in what can be a very challenging subject. Students show a warmth to one another and staff alike and work hard to achieve the best possible grades they can.
