Students

Haywood Academy is a member of the Schools Co-operative Society who strongly supports collaboration between schools, students and their local community.

We apply the same ethos; providing students with a wide range of options from a balanced curriculum that equip them with knowledge and skills needed to achieve top grades at GCSE level and beyond.

Lifelong learning is a key theme of ours and we encourage students to continue this into sixth form and university, forging a successful career in whatever subject they choose.

Our academic and vocational courses include the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, ICT, RE, Personal Development and PE. Students also study History, Geography, Art, Modern Languages, Technology and Drama.

Each student’s progress monitored via a series of assessments and mentoring with personalised support in place for students with special educational needs. This intervention equally applies to students who are in the top 10-20% of their year group and fall into the ‘able and talented’ category.

As well as academic skills, students are encouraged to develop their physical, social and leadership abilities in a variety of extra-curricular activities that take place at lunchtimes or after school. Popular choices include Multisports, Young Enterprise, Film Club and Orchestra.

“I have had so many opportunities at Haywood over the last 5 years. It is a great school.” – Amy, Year 11 student
