Library

The Library is open 8.00am until 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, for coursework, homework, independent study and reading.

34 computers; book resources; printing and quiet study/ reading area are available. The librarian and other staff are on hand to assist students.

These facilities may be used independently before school, during break & lunch and after school.

Virtual Library

Students can find what they need easily, using our Virtual Library from school computers.

Here, they can search the library catalogue; check their account; order a book that is out on loan; write a book review and read other students’ recommendations.

Projects and events

Various projects and events are run from the library throughout the year. These include the celebrations for World Book Day; Premier League Reading Stars; Bookbuzz; Summer Reading Challenge and themed book clubs. As part of our commitment to creating a reading culture throughout the school, we have also been lucky enough to welcome internationally acclaimed authors Cathy Cassidy and Melvin Burgess to Haywood Academy during the last 12 months.

“The emphasis the Academy puts on reading is exemplary. All students in Years 7 to 10 read daily for up to 35 minutes in tutorial time. This is driving up standards of literacy.”
