A message from the Headteacher

Welcome to Haywood Academy

We are one of the highest performing secondary schools in the West Midlands and a national, top performing, non-selective secondary school.  We have a simple mission – to help give your child the best start in life.

In 2016 GCSE results increased once again; the fourth year in a row that year 11 students have broken Academy performance records!

In 2015 we were the only school in the country to win two national awards from the Department for Education – the regional Pupil Premium Award and the regional Character Education Award.

In 2014 Ofsted judged the Academy to be ‘Good’ in every category, under a far tougher inspection framework than schools have been judged against before.  We have now improved further in every area and we are a school that constantly wants to give our students the best in education.

The Academy’s GCSE results are amongst the best of all secondary schools in the country, above the national average for student progress in many areas and we have been consistent in these outcomes over the last three years. Therefore, as a parent you can feel assured that we will give your child the best possible start to their educational life.

School life at Haywood is built around the needs of our students.  The Academy has excellent teachers and prides itself on a caring and orderly ethos that enables students to fulfil their potential.

Our Sixth Form, which opened last year in the old town hall in the centre of Burslem following a £2.1 million refurbishment, is sponsored by our Business Class Partners, Steelite International and supported by 100’s of businesses through our ground breaking and award winning ‘Work Based Learning programme’. It now provides our community with an 11-18 education offer fit for the 21st Century.

We also have a unique partnership with 4 of the top universities in England; Cambridge, Oxford, Keele and Staffordshire to help us deliver our ‘Excellence Academy’, which provides a traditional ‘Grammar School’ experience from Year 7, aimed at getting students ready for a top university place in the future.

We value the trust and respect that the local community have in our approach and seek to provide outstanding opportunities for all our students so that their aspirations have no limits.
